Research:
Minimum of 96 units

Enroll in Master of Science Project (24-794).

Secure research advisor by tenth day of classes of second semester.

Must take at least 24 research units per semester beginning in the second semester

Complete at least 48 research units by the end of the 3rd semester to maintain progress towards the degree.

Research units will be awarded a letter grade in each semester they are taken.
Research Paper and Graduate Research Symposium Participation

The MSME-R degree culminates in a comprehensive and professionally written report (ASME conference paper format) documenting the research.
-
The report must be approved by the research advisor and submitted to the department prior to graduation.

Must present research at the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Research Symposium.
Departmental Seminar
Two semesters of attendance is required for full-time students.

Advanced Entry Ph.D.:

Research Units

Two Teaching Assistantship (TA) assignments (12 units of 24-795 section A for each assignment)

Thesis Proposal (typically 2-3 years after entry)

Comprehensive and professionally written thesis (approved by the advisor/thesis committee and submitted to the department prior to graduation)
Yearly Review

A “PhD Annual Report” signed by the student’s advisor(s) is required each year
